How to write a book that will leverage a career and create passive income?

I often tell my clients that writing a book is ‘icing on the cake’ and not the ‘cake’ itself. If you write a book it takes considerable time and effort and usually money too, so you need to be sure your book will sell. If you want your book to sell you need to ‘get found’, so your book needs to solve a problem and should, ideally, be related to your business. Producing a book that shows you are the expert in your field will produce you passive income via Amazon sales, ebook sales and direct, ‘back of the room’ sales. So this means that experts, teachers, trainers, speakers and consultants all have the best chance of making money. If you are none of the former then I recommend you write a book for which its target market is where you currently live.

So, you live in Amsterdam, write a book for those who will walk into a local bookshop. If you are a specialist in dog shampooing and know how to reach all the poodle parlours, dog shows, dog owners and pet shops in the world (or your area) then that is great too. You must be ‘in’ your market whether that be physical or virtual.
