From BrandOmni blog: Successful Branding in a Nutshell

Branding is managing the thoughts and feelings people have about you. You do that by:

1. Keeping things simple: One simple idea that is clear and consistent in delivering superior service is enough. You can't be everything to everyone. Care to be unique.

2. Making it happen. Be someone who constantly gets things done.

3. Being confident. Always. Confidence plays a massive part in the success.

BrandOmni Super Simple Social Media Policy

Most businesses, especially big businesses, have corporate conduct guidelines explaining how to behave when on the job. Most, if not all, of these guidelines can be used as the basis for a super simple Social Media Policy. All one has to do is add “... online” at the end of each conduct guideline statement. For example...

Fortune_2

Fortune_3

Fortune_4

Fortune_5

Of course, adding “... online” to a company’s existing corporate conduct guideline policy does not cover everything a business needs to concern itself with when designing its Social Media Policy. However, it probably covers most things.

For a much deeper dive into designing a Social Media Policy check out WOMMA’s resources and the resources from SocialMedia.org.

Branding Trends for 2011

Branding Strategy blog published a month ago a list of 11 branding & marketing trends for 2011 that I cut to my top 3.

1. They’re Talking to Each Other Before Talking to the Brand- Customers check every brand online, they read reviews, they discuss it in the forums, they share with others long before they they will make a purchase decision. That's why online branding matters. Read more about why branding online matters on BrandOmni

2. Engagement is Not a Fad  To succeed brands need to engage the customers, out-dated brand awareness programs such as: logo on employee uniforms, on vehicles, on buildings, the online-brochure style website don't engage customers. Brands need to find different strategy, if customers are engaged they become brand ambassadors and influence friends.

3. Friends recommendations will be the most valuable. Influence by friends will also increase, people trust friends not the paid ad. Community advise will play a big role in driving customers to the shops for purchasing a particular brand.
